How did I become me? Why this self and not some other? Do you or I possess one identity or many vying to dictate our behavior? I’ve been meditating on such imponderables in thousands of daily essays stretching over a dozen years. Glimpses of a Self is a psychological memoir – not a recital of facts but a recollection of revelations: meeting a new grandchild; comforting a dying friend; falling in love; the view from a high peak. “The incomprehensibility of human behavior,” I’ve found, “makes us interesting. My ignorance is my treasure. If I could predict myself, where would be the fun?”
